It is the 50,124th year since the Insurrection of Heaven, and the world stands at a precipice…

It has been just over 120 years since the Resurrection of Dracnus, and Ondoron has changed considerably. The Empire of Luminairre, long a center of learning and justice and one of the major champions of good in the world is in a steady decline. The throne of the Empire has been empty for 80 years since the Empress Lauren Luminairre was slain by Dracnus at the Battle of the Broken Spear. The Lord Knights rule the Empire until another Luminairre proves himself (or herself) worthy of the throne. The resources of the Knights of Luminiairre are stretched to the limit. To make matters worse, four of the Swords of the Lord Knights have been missing for decades. In addition to being holy artifacts of great power, the missing weapons are symbols of the authority of the Lord Knights. The missing blades have resulted in a growing imbalance of power within the leadership of the Knighthood.

The citizens of the Luminairre Empire have grown increasingly restless. Every child in the Empire learns the legends that surround the success and prosperity of the Empire. That Rozerus himself promised that as long as the Luminairre line remained true that the Empire would stand. Empress Lauren Luminairre was the last direct descendent of Brighton Luminairre I and she was killed before she produced an heir. While there are many with more distant connections to the Luminairre line, none have been able to fulfill the requirements to claim the throne. For 80 years the White Throne has remained empty. Self-claimed prophets have started to pop up, claiming that the Rozerus is displeased with his favored people and withholds his favor and protection from them. These prophets say that the days of the Empire are numbered unless the people repent. Others point out that the missing swords of the Lord Knights show that they have displeased Rozerus. Everyone in the Empire learns the legends that say the Swords were crafted by the hands of Archseraphim Telarus within the forges of Heaven and that they cannot be broken as long as the Empire stands. Likewise, they can never be lost. It was promised that the blades would always make their way back to the Empire they defend. In the thousands of years that the Empire has existed, never has a blade been missing for more than a dozen years. But three of the blades have been missing for a century, and the other has been missing for eight decades. There is a relatively small but growing segment of the population that believes that the Luminairre line has faltered and Rozerus has turned away from the Lord Knights and that new leadership is needed to secure the future of Luminairre…

To make matters worse, the Shield Alliance is in danger of falling apart. The elves of Qual-Evan are engaged in a bitter and bloody war with the Dalerians. Luminairre has sent what aid it could spare to the elves, but Davinguard has refused to send aid due to increased tensions with it’s neighbor Endaril….
